Friends-

Despite my campaign for the office of Maryland Comptroller having ended last September, I have remained strong in my advocacy of conservative principles. I have continued to play an active role in a variety of conservative organizations at the state and national levels. I look forward to continuing to work with you in the fight to reduce the size of government, reduce taxes, and promote private-sector economic growth.

I felt that this was a good time to update you on my recent activities because I some exciting news to share with you. In today’s (Thursday) edition of The Baltimore Sun, I have an op-ed discussing job creation that can be found both online at http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/oped/bs-ed-jobs-texas-20110622,0,953236.story and on the “Commentary” page of the paper. I strongly encourage you to read my piece and to share it with your family and friends. We can no longer afford to accept the failed economic policies of those in Annapolis. Campaign Update #1 and Peter Franchot’s Anti-Business Policies

What a great week for my campaign! After announcing my candidacy just over a week ago, Marylanders have flooded my website with traffic. Next, my campaign will be adding a volunteer page and a donation page to the website to make it more accessible for those interested in becoming involved with my campaign. In the next few weeks, I plan to officially file to seek the Republican nomination for Comptroller. As of today, no other Republicans are in the race, and if this continues to be the case I will avoid a costly primary fight. I, however, do not believe that this will end up being the case come September. In the next few months, I will be attending (and hopefully speaking at) Tea Parties all across the great State of Maryland. I also plan to hold “Meet the Candidate” meeting in various locations across the State. I truly believe that my campaign has what it takes to defeat Comptroller Franchot come election time. Back in 2009, Comptroller Franchot attempted to begin enforcing a tax on soda fountains dating back to 1916. There is one problem: the law was not referring to what we now refer to as soda fountains, but (being the master-taxer) Comptroller Franchot figured out a way to change the interpretation of the law to include modern soda fountains. In the middle of a recession, we cannot allow of state leaders to impose additional taxes on businesses. If our elected officials continue to implement anti-business policies such as this one, our economy will continue to lag. State leaders need to work to cut taxes on Maryland businesses so that our economy can emerge from the current recession as one of the best in the nation. More information at: http://bit.ly/cNRJAR

Announcing My Candidacy for Comptroller

I have decided to run as a Republican in the 2010 race for Maryland Comptroller. I made this decision after a great deal of thought and research. With the recent Republican victories in New Jersey, Virginia, and Massachusetts in addition to Gov. Rick Perry’s primary election victory in Texas, the people are sending a clear message: they are tired of the political establishment. Realizing that the Republicans were just simply going to nominate the person, who is “next in line” in the political establishment, I knew I could not stand on the sidelines. The Maryland Republican Party has largely been ineffective in recent years, and many elected Republicans are abandoning the core principles of the party.

My campaign, most certainly, will face an uphill battle, but victory is by no means out-of-reach. Before I take on Comptroller Franchot in the general election, I will likely have to engage in a primary battle against “establishment” Republican candidate. This is where I need your support. Unlike many other campaigns, I request that you support my campaign primarily through volunteering instead of through monetary means. My campaign is not going to accept any funds from corrupt interest groups, and, as a result, we will likely be heavily outspent in both the primary and general elections. However, this can be used to our advantage. While other candidates are spending precious campaign time paying lip service to interest groups, my campaign will be out courting voters. As we saw with the Obama campaign in 2008, building a powerful grassroots network will, ultimately, lead to electoral success.

I have already formed a candidate committee under the name Friends of Brendan Madigan, and I am planning to officially file to run sometime in early April.
